Sanctification (growing up spiritually) is not optional but mandatory for all who have received the benefit of justification before God by faith in Christ’s atonement (payment) for their sin. As Christ followers we must take seriously Jesus’ high standard for godly living when he declared, “You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5:48).
