What the Bible says about…. The Bible
Podcast: Play in new window | Download (Duration: 39:32 — 35.6MB)
For our summer message series we will look to the Bible for answers to some of our questions and issues that we tend to think about but don’t always take the time to discover what God’s thoughts are about them.
This week we look at the Bible.
What the Bible says about the Bible is the most important thing a Christian can know. For it is the basis for all other answers we may have about our faith and life. From 2 Timothy 3:16 we learn that “All
Scripture [whole Bible] is breathed out by God” such that it contains the very words of God.
From Psalm 19:10, we read “more to be desired are they [the very Words of God] than gold, even much fine gold” so that having them is of greater value than any riches of this world.

All Peoples Total Depravity Before God (part 2)
Podcast: Play in new window | Download (Duration: 56:45 — 51.0MB)
When we grasp the full significance of Paul’s words, “All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one” (quoting from Psalm 14) about our character and good deeds, we have some important decisions to make about think about ourselves and others.
For parents, this raises questions about how to build a child’s self-esteem. While some think you shouldn’t tell children, “You’re ok. You’re basically a good kid,” others see building a child’s self esteem as hugely important in raising them up into emotionally confident and psychologically well-adjusted adults.
How do we relate to people who are sinners for whom God so loved that he gave his only Son so that they would not perish? Can we
relate to people as sinners made in the very image of God rightly? We live in a culture saturated by ideas that people are basically good that just may need some help bringing out that goodness. Is that true?

All People’s Total Depravity Before God (part 1)
Podcast: Play in new window | Download (Duration: 57:29 — 52.0MB)
In his closing arguments to his sweeping claim that “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men” (Romans 1:18), Paul charges all humanity as “under sin” (Romans 3:9). He then concludes that “every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God” (Romans 3:19).
Until we fully grasp all people’s total depravity before God, we cannot, and will not, fully know the gospel as “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (1:16). Neither will we be fully assured that our salvation at God’s final judgment is based solely on “the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe” (Romans 3:22).
From the gospel we see our total depravity in sin so that we can believe in our total righteousness in Jesus!
