This Sunday

The two words, “much more,” are hugely significant in the Bible. They provide a comparison from smaller to greater like a single rain drop to the “much more” of the oceans, a single snowflake to the “much more” of a snow-capped mountain summit, and a single star to the “much more” of all the galaxies.

Paul often uses these two words: “many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and free gift…of that one man Jesus Christ abounded to many” (Romans 5:15) or “death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life.” (Romans 5:17).

When a person has moved from being born of their natural status “in Adam” to being born again into their spiritual status “in Christ” those “much more” becomes our experience. Living moves from routines to the “much more” of God’s promises, from world values to the “much more” of kingdom values, and from temporal things to the “much more” of eternal spiritual blessings!

All of God’s “much mores” for his children are by grace. From them we can wake up each day to experience the wonder of unwrapping God’s good gifts that can bring sighs of contentment as well as gasps of deep, soul-satisfying joy.

Paul captures all of God’s “much mores” in Romans 8:32, “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?”

The suggested reading for this Sunday is Romans 5:15-21 and Isaiah 65:17.

See you at church!
